8.3 magnitude earthquake, residents Mentawai Scurrying to the hills


Independent News - 8.3-magnitude earthquake that shook the Mentawai make people panic. They scrambled for safe places higher. This was done after knowing the potential tsunami earthquake.

"People ran out into the higher hills, fearing a tsunami," says Ayak, residents who live in Siberut Mentawai, Wednesday (02/03/2016).

Sift states, the electric current in the Mentawai been extinguished. Residents were forced to use makeshift lighting equipment to save themselves.

An earthquake measuring 8.3 on the Richter scale (SR) rocked Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra. The quake occurred at 19:49 pm.

Meteorology Geophysics (BMKG) inform the location of the earthquake that occurred this evening, Wednesday (02/03/2016) is 5.16 LS, 94.05 BT.

Earthquake at 682 km Southwestern Mentawai Islands the depth of 10 km. BMKG informed that a large earthquake has the potential to cause a tsunami.
